Chapter Study: Psalm 12

Peace & Blessings Beloved,

TGBTG for allowing us to see another day. I pray all is well with you and yours, and that your week has been fruitful & blessed thus far.

Last week we reviewed Psalm 11. Today, we're going to study Psalm 12.

With that in mind, let's get to it.

Psalm 12

The Faithful Have Vanished

To the choirmaster: according to The Sheminith. A Psalm of David.

12 Save, O Lord, for the godly one is gone; for the faithful have vanished from among the children of man. 2 Everyone utters lies to his neighbor; with flattering lips and a double heart they speak.

3 May the Lord cut off all flattering lips, the tongue that makes great boasts, 4 those who say, “With our tongue we will prevail, our lips are with us; who is master over us?”

5 “Because the poor are plundered, because the needy groan, I will now arise,” says the Lord; “I will place him in the safety for which he longs.” 6 The words of the Lord are pure words, like silver refined in a furnace on the ground, purified seven times.

7 You, O Lord, will keep them; you will guard us from this generation forever. 8 On every side the wicked prowl, as vileness is exalted among the children of man.

Chapter Summary:

  • vs. 1-4 David prays to God for the deliverance of the meek from a lying and arrogant people

  • vs. 5 God assures David that He will deliver the meek who look on Him for salvation

  • vs. 6-8 Although recognizing the presence of the wicked world around him, David expresses his confidence in the untarnished word of God

Synopsis:

The title is like many others in this general section of psalms, simply stating the audience, the instrument, and the author of the psalm. In this psalm David complains about the vicious words of his adversaries, and in contrast praises the pure and precious word of God.

Key Takeaways:

  • The world attacks the congregation of the Lord but God defends it.

  • It is not promised to the righteous that they shall live without opposition; but that God will preserve them from the wicked generation and save them

  • God watches over His people and protects those who sigh after Him.

  • In times of trouble God comforts the afflicted by His holy word

  • The growth of the church (body of Christ) is at times interrupted, but it cannot be destroyed; because the Lord is its help and its salvation

  • God is just, and will deal with the wicked and righteous accordingly

Conclusion:

  • In times of affliction the believer should rely on: 1) the consolation of prayer; 2) the promise of the word of God; 3) the power of the communion of saints.

  • As Christians, we should not exhibit any pride, vanity, deception, or hypocrisy to our fellow man.

  • We should also, as believers, take great comfort in calling and relying on the Lord for our every need

May we establish, nurture, and grow a sincere love for the word of God, and study it lovingly & faithfully.

I pray you receive this with the love intended, and apply it to wisdom.

Love you much.

Stay Safe, Stay Healthy, Stay Blessed!

P.S- If you have not given your life to Jesus Christ, I implore you to take the time to do so right now. Use John 3:16 & Romans 10:9-10 as a foundation for making your confession of faith. And use Ephesians 2:1-10 to provide proper context for your salvation.
